(Evans, NY)-WKBW-TV
The Erie County Sheriff's Air One helicopter, Town of Evans Police, and various fire departments responded to a frantic call of two boys floating down 18 mile creek between Route 5 and Old Lake Shore Road in the Town of Evans. Fortunately, the boys climbed out of the creek after being carried down the rain swollen rapids for quite a distance. Both boys, who live in the Derby area, were checked for hypothermia. Air One Pilot Captain Kevin Caffery says that these areas can be deadly at this time of year and parents need to make sure to keep their children away from creeks and streams. This holds true for any areas that have ice remaining on them...The Sheriff's and rescue crews have been called out multiple times for people venturing where they shouldn't over the past two weeks.
