A soldier from Western New York who was killed in Afghanistan was laid to rest in Niagara County on Saturday. Army Specialist Alan Dikcis, a 21-year-old Niagara-Wheatfield graduate, was killed by a roadside bomb last week.
Family and friends attended his Mass of Christian burial at St. Leo's Catholic church in Niagara Falls on Saturday
His step mother, Gricela Dikcis, told Eyewitness News recently that Alan loved his job so much he'd just re-enlisted after serving three years, and he had dreams of becoming a helicopter mechanic. "He died for his country. He was very proud of what he was doing. He believed in what he was doing," says Gricela Dikcis, "He was just the same as any other kid, father, son, daughter that's in the service. They're doing it for a reason - so we can be free."
Dikcis was buried Saturday afternoon with full military honors in White Chapel Memorial Park.
