ALBANY, NY ( WKBW ) The count down is here as there are less than three weeks to go for the state to pass a budget on time, by April 1st. Legislators have been meeting month after month to pass a budget but still nothing. Some believe the hold up has to do with arguments over where more cuts should be made. "I don't know how we're gonna get the budget done on time," New York State Senator Dale Volker said. "The leaders in New York City can't bring themselves to additional cuts and the {people in} upstate for the most part say we're not going to do any more taxes and fees, so we're caught."

Some also think it may not be helping that there are some distractions with the latest investigation of whether Governor David Paterson and his staff illegally contacted a woman who accused an aide of domestic violence. "Well it doesn't help the situation but I wouldn't necessarily say it's stalling," NY Senator Antoine Thompson said.

"If these allegations of domestic violence and abuse of power are true, the governor will have to step down," NY Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said. "These are very concerning issues, serious issues but we all have to get back to work and I have great confidence in New York State to focus on the people's business first to make sure we're focused on the budget."

The governor has stated he plans on seeing New York through the budget.
