Olympic Gold Medalist Steve Mesler shared his win with his hometown Thursday evening at Pearl Street Grill, hanging with fans and those he grew up with. "No I don't get tired of sharing the medal, it's so much fun," Steve Mesler said while welcoming people.

One family from Cheektowaga stopped by to say hi and meet the champion. "We watched him win and then we were able to come and celebrate with him so it was really nice," Kate Zubler said.

And people who know Mesler, including those from his high school days came by, even bringing a few yearbooks showing Mesler as a senior at City Honors School and on the track team. "Steve was the kind of kid who couldn't get enough practice time, and he loved anything to do with running, jumping, hurdles... he loved it all," Charles LaChiusa, the president of a summer track club Steve was a member of, said.

It was just last month Mesler helped America earn its first gold-medal in the four-man bobsled in 62 years.

Mesler sat down with Channel 7 and told us what he has learned from his Olympic journey and how it took three tries at the Olympics to finally win gold. "The main thing I've learned is don't be afraid to fail," Mesler said. "I did great in high school then I got to college and I didn't do well. Every year, year after year I was hurt or something happened that I wasn't able to perform my best. Third time was the charm for me, but if we hadn't failed in my eyes last time around, it wouldn't have felt so good this time around."
