WASHINGTON, DC ( WKBW ) Almost two dozen family members who lost loved ones in the Crash of Flight 3407 in Clarence Center February 12, 2009 are fighting to move legislation forward to make airline travel safer, and they're now one step closer.

In an emotional plea, Kevin Kuwik ( who lost his fiance' in the crash ) urged political leaders not to let politics get in the way. He noted that this is "an amazing group that has lost some amazing people."

Kevin made those comments with the other family members behind him, joined by New York State Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Schumer called the group "extraordinary, saintly people" explaining that the group has risen above the norm to do great things.

The families are hoping the FAA Reauthorization Bill will pass through the senate. Initially the families were upset that one opponent to the bill, Republican Senator Bob Corker from Tennessee, would not lift a "hold" to move it forward. Corker contended that language in the bill would potentially allow FED EX employees an easier process to unionize. FED EX is based in Memphis, a city that Corker represents.

But after speaking with family members who lost loved ones when Flight 3407 crashed down in Clarence Center, the senator lifted his hold and the bill is now on the senate floor.
