WASHINGTON, DC ( WKBW ) Almost two dozen family members who lost loved ones in the Crash of Flight 3407 in Clarence Center February 12, 2009 are fighting to move legislation forward to make airline travel safer.

In an emotional plea, Kevin Kuwik ( who lost his fiance' in the crash ) urged political leaders not to let politics get in the way. He noted that this is "an amazing group that has lost some amazing people."

Kevin made those comments with the other family members behind him, joined by New York State Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Schumer called the group "extraordinary, saintly people" explaining that the group has risen above the norm to do great things.

The families were upset that one opponent to the bill, Republican Senator Bob Corker from Tennessee, would not lift a "hold" to move it forward. Corker was concerned that language in the bill would potentially allow FED EX employees an easier process to unionize. FED EX is based in Memphis, a city that Corker represents.

However after a meeting with Corker in his Chambers, the Tennessee Senator said he would lift the "hold" and move the Bill forward to the floor.

John Kausner, who lost his daughter in the crash, added that the group are not "paid lobbyists." He recognized Karen Eckert, who lost her sister Beverly. Beverly lost her husband during the 9/11 attacks in September 2001, and fought for tougher security measures.

Channel 7's Eyewitness News will continue to follow this story with updates on the Airline Safety Bill as it moves through the legislative process.
