Acting Superintendent Pedro Perez Announces His Retirement

March 9, 2010 - Albany, NY - ( release ) Today New York State Police Acting Superintendent Pedro Perez announced his retirement after 28 years of service.

By operation of law under Section 6 of the New York State Public Officers Law, in the absence of the Superintendent and the First Deputy Superintendent, the Field Commander shall assume the duties of the Superintendent. Deputy Superintendent John P. Melville will assume the duties of Acting Superintendent of the New York State Police at the close of business, Friday, March 12, 2010.

In a letter to Governor Paterson, Perez noted that his retirement, "is not premised on the current investigation by the Attorney General, as I know my decisions were honest and rightly motivated."

It was just last week that the former Head of the New York State Police Harry Corbitt resigned, as an investigation into whether the Governor was involved in a domestic violence case.
