They are armed with letters for all 100 U.S. Senators, asking them to vote for the reapproriation bill, which calls for more stringent safety measures in the air. They are going to Washington to deliver them, hoping the vote would come Thursday.
"We have come so far and we just took it for granted Thursday they are going to vote and all of a sudden out of nowhere this happens. But it made me want to fight harder," said Jennifer West, who lost her husband.
What she is talking about is a junior senator from Tennessee. Jennifer and Robin Tolsma, who lost their husbands in flight 3407, believe he is standing in the way of getting the bill passed. They have a meeting with the senator tomorrow. His office explains this differently. They issues a statement saying, "Sen. Corker is supportive of the senate FAA bill, but we have placed a hold until we can be assured that the controversial fedex provision will not be included in the final legislation". The Tennesian.com explains that it could make it easier to unionize at FedEX Corp. in Memphis, an area he represents.
"I want to see Senator Corker. I want him to explain to me how it is fair that he gets to walk his daughter down the aisle, and Nicole and Summer don't have their dads to walk them down the aisle," said Robin Tolsma.
