Ice Fishing by the carload off of Hamburg

The Hamburg Town Beach parking lot is filled with cars and trucks belonging to ice fisherman. Most traveled out by ATV to the popular Meyer's Reef area of Lake Erie...Over 65 people were spotted, barely by the naked eye, showing up as little dots on the horizon. The Erie County Sheriff's Department continues with air patrols over the ice for those who venture out too far. Captain Art Litzinger has been out for one rescue so far this year off of Sturgeon Point in the Town of Evans. Captain Kevin Caffery has said for years in his experience with numerous ice rescues that "no ice is safe ice." EWN will monitor the Sheriff's for any situations that may arise along the shores of Lake Erie. When news breaks, there's only Eyewitness News.
