Western New York is the place to call for help with snow removal, and that's why nearly 100 people and pieces of equipment have left here and are down in the Washington DC area. It has been around the clock work for contractors trying to clear away more than three feet of snow in cities not used to it. "A lot of snow. We have two operators for each piece of equipment so that equipment never stops moving. It's been running 24 hours since we got here last week," Chris McClendon, who is leading the large group of workers, said.

McClendon works for a company in Sanborn, NY that does landscaping and snowplowing. The company's owner says they round up workers and sub-contractors to go to areas where assistance is needed. "The main thing is to get the roads opened up... back to normal," Scott Miller, the owner of Scott Lawn Yard, said.

Many roads are starting to look more normal again so some of the crew is being sent back to Western New York. One worker returned Tuesday morning. "We worked until last night," worker Jerry Wilson said. "It's all looking pretty good."

So what happens if we get a big snowstorm while some of the help is down south? Officials do assure us there is enough help already here and we would quickly bring the large crew back if we needed to. "If Buffalo got hit hard we'd have some type of advance warning and we'd bring {them} back," Lockport Mayor Michael Tucker said.

Most of the workers are from Niagara Falls, Lockport, Buffalo, Amherst, Cheektowaga, Rochester, and Albany. The rest of the crew should be back by the weekend.
