Memorial services are being arranged for a special forces soldier with ties to Western New York. 39-year-old Mark Stets Jr. was killed Wednesday when a bomb detonated near a school in Pakistan. Stets was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., but much of his family is from Niagara County.
A Pennsylvania man is under arrest in Niagara Falls for allegedly drinking and driving with a child in the car. 28-year-old Joshua Smith was arrested by NY Park Police on Goat Island Thursday night and faces charges of D.W.I. and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Speed cameras could take up residence on the NYS Thruway if Governor Paterson's proposed budget passes as is. The budget plan calls for fifty cameras to help stop speeders and generate up to $25 million in revenue for the state. Forty of the cameras would be placed in work zones, and ten others placed randomly along the Thruway. The project would cost around $7.9 million.
