Recalled Toyotas now getting fixed at local dealerships, as Northtown Toyota gets ready to go 24 7 to get the job done. And Chris Stawarski was one of the first in the door, to get his Toyota Tundra looked at. He has not had any problems with the gas pedal, but for him, better safe than sorry.
"I have two kids. Obviously I don't want to take any chances," said Stawarski.
They expect many cars to come through.
"We are going to make this as convenient as possible because we are very concerned," said Craig Schreiber, owner of Northtown Toyota.
The technicians have been trained.
Technician John Spazkowski walked us through the fix for the pedals, measuring the clearance between two points on the accelerator pedal. He inserted a steel reinforcing bar to reduce the clearance, and after that, the pedal was put back in the car.
"It is very basic. Very simple," said Spakzowksi.
"I suspect that within the next two weeks we can get most of these repairs and recalls performed," added Schreiber.
