ECC Warns of Layoffs with Budget Proposal

July 9, 2010 Updated Jan 29, 2010 at 2:17 PM EST

BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) -- Erie Community College President Jack Quinn warns that Governor Paterson's budget proposal could lead to staff layoffs and program reductions in the upcoming year.

Governor Paterson's budget proposal includes a large cut to state aid that supports community colleges, and with growing enrollment, ECC may have to make cuts of its' own.

"These cuts will severely impact our open access policy and ability to provide the services we do now to our students," ECC Board of Trustees member Patricia Krzesinski said.

ECC has already implemented a hiring freeze and eliminated non-critical expenditures.
