Sub-Zero Wind Chills Put WNY In Deep Freeze

July 9, 2010 Updated Dec 29, 2009 at 7:08 AM EST BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) -- Chief Meteorologist Mike Randall reporting The National Weather Service (NWS) continues to post a Winter Weather Advisory for N. Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and Allegany Counties until 10am on Tuesday. Lake effect snow warning for S. Erie, Wyoming, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus Counties until 6pm Tuesday. Strong winds and colder temperatures will put wind chills below zero late tonight through Tuesday.

Here is the latest weather forecast: NIAGARA-ORLEANS-NORTHERN ERIE-GENESEE-WYOMING-SOUTHERN ERIE- INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...NIAGARA FALLS...MEDINA...BUFFALO...BATAVIA...WARSAW...ORCHARD PARK...SPRINGVILLE...THE SHORT TERM FORECAST FOR THE NIAGARA FRONTIER. NARROW BANDS OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL CONTINUE EARLY THIS MORNING. SNOWFALL RATES UP TO ONE HALF INCH PER HOUR WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THE HEAVIEST AND MOST PERSISTENT LAKE BANDS....NORTHWEST WINDS GUSTING TO 30 MPH WILL ALSO PRODUCE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW...ESPECIALLY IN OPEN AREAS. UNTREATED ROADS WILL BE SNOW COVERED AND VERY SLICK. DRIVE WITH CAUTION AND ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION IF TRAVELING EARLY THIS MORNING.

An arctic cold front dropped temperatures into the single digits Tuesday morning, with the coldest wind chills of the season.

With Lake Effect snow, the weather can vary from locally heavy snow in narrow bands to clear skies just a few miles away. If you are traveling across the region, be prepared for rapid changes in road and visibility conditions.
