Buffalo, NY ( WKBW ) A few nights ago Eyewitness News first told you about local Target employees who were fired for buying Zhu Zhu Pets at the wrong time. Now Eyewitness News has learned Target will re-hire all seven of those employees.
We introduced you to Susan Kronbeck on Thursday. She was fired from the Target store near the Walden Galleria along with six of her co-workers for buying Zhu Zhu Pets at the wrong time. Kronbeck worked the overnight shift stocking shelves. She decided to buy the toy hamster a few weeks back during her shift at 4:00 a-m. Afterwards she was disciplined she says for violating Target's rule prohibiting employees from buying Zhu Zhu Pets before 8:00 a-m. Kronbeck was let go and was in danger of losing her house because she lost her paycheck.
Eyewitness News spoke to Kronbeck on the phone Sunday afternoon And she says she's relieved to have her job back. She'll be paid for the days she missed and will be back on the job Tuesday.
Target issued the following statement Sunday afternoon:
Target has carefully reviewed the situation at the Walden Galleria Target store, and we have determined that the team member terminations were the unintended consequence of a good policy rigidly applied. Therefore, Target intends to reinstate all seven of the team members, effective immediately.
At Target, we are firmly committed to ensuring that we deliver an outstanding shopping experience for our guests, including being in-stock on our guests' most wanted items. We are equally committed to ensuring that our policies are appropriate and fair and that we are implementing them consistently across our company.
As a result of the situation at our Walden Galleria store, we are re-examining how we apply our team member purchasing guidelines policy, both to ensure that it is implemented appropriately and to ensure that we are delivering the superior shopping experience our guests expect and deserve.
