BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) -- Back in 2000, Theodore Sypnier was sentenced to ten years in jail, after sexually assaulting several children. But he lived to be one hundred, and was just recently put in a halfway house. Lawmakers think he never should have gotten there, instead considered for civil confinement. They have already sent a letter to the department of mental health for an explanation, but this time, Assemblyman Jim Hayes has gone further.
"I think people are outraged and think just because his age is one hundred years old that for some reason this man deserves some kind of extra attention. The fact of the matter is he is a predator," said Hayes.
He has sent a letter to Andrew Cuomo, asking the Attorney General to take action to put Sypnier behind bars. He also commented on Sypnier's daughter, who he says wants to keep her identity confidential.
"She grew up that horror. She saw that horror be experienced by other young girls, and she is pleading with the Attorney General and the District Attorney to take action to put him away for the rest of his life," added hayes.
District Attorney Frank Sedita tells this is a civil matter, but he believes Sypnier should be behind bars, and is the poster child for a pedophile.
The Attorney General's office tells us they are reviewing the request.
