Some shoppers decided not to go to the malls this morning, instead heading to the local shops in the area. On Elmwood Avenue, shoppers were out in full force this Black Friday. It is an annual trip for Erin Diebold. She picked up some gifts at Everything Elmwood.
"They do a lot of wrapping in some of these stores which gets it out of the way for me...and I like to support local businesses," said Erin.
Local businesses are happy to have her, and other shoppers. On Main street in Williamsville, you can see a sign in many windows, thanking people for shopping local. At the Adam store, the stars are aligned for a big holiday season. They know they can count on the local business.
"People want to come in and support Adam because he is from Buffalo, and a local designer," said Kate Palame, the assistant manager.
At Monroe's place in the Village of Hamburg, they were in early this morning, ready for the rush, hoping for big business.
"We also need all of that attention on this glorious black Friday," said Monroe.
They are calling it green Friday. Part of the reason: keep the green money right here in the area. Monroe is hoping people do that all season long.
Like the malls, many of the local stores also have extended hours this holiday season.
