Just months after rains ravaged Gowanda and Silver Creek, families there remain thankful this season.
Things are getting back to normal in Gowanda, where many people say they have much to be thankful for this season.
The spray painted Buffalo with the words "survival" became a symbol of persistence in Gowanda after August rains flooded the community. The spray painted Buffalo has moved locations, but still carries the same meaning, that persistence and attitude continue as people rebuild.
Alex Hedges lives on Aldrich near Main. His basement was flooded. His garage was destroyed, but he is putting up a new one. He remains upbeat, even though he lost lots of stuff. Alex says things are working out, and that Thanksgiving was held at his house.
Alex told Julie Fine, "I am thankful we have a house. Some people lost their houses. That means alto."
In Silver Creek at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church, things are looking up too. There was much work to do after floods damaged the church, but work is going well, and Thanksgiving Mass was held there.
The work in both Gowanda and Silver Creek is far from over, but not the spirits of the people who live there.
