A Buffalo police officer walked into the line of fire on Wednesday after he interrupted a robbery at an auto parts store.

The on-duty officer, who is not being identified by officials, walked into the AutoZone store at 1224 Broadway at 4:50 p.m.

Customers in the store alerted the officer that a robbery was in progress.

That's when the male suspect opened fire, shooting two rounds at the officer, who dodged the bullets.

No one was injured. The distance between the shooter and cop was about 20 feet, according to police spokesman Michael DeGeorge.

One bullet shattered the store's front window, while the other punctured a bottle of anti-freeze on a nearby display.

The suspect apparently turned and fled. He made of with an undisclosed amount of cash, DeGeorge said.

Buffalo Police have launched an intense search for the suspect in the immediate area, blocking major intersections.
