John Gibson has been cashing checks and making deposits at HSBC's Fillmore-Glenwood branch for more than 40 years.

"I've been here since Marine Midland was here and that's a long time," he said after walking into the bank for the final time.

HSBC Bank USA, N.A. closed the branch on Friday due to a drop in business.

Only 17 percent of the branch's account-holders do business at the branch, a company spokesman said, making it one of the slowest branches in financial institution's 47-branch Western New York network.

"It's bad, it's bad, it's bad," Gibson said. "Every time you look around something is closing."

The branch's employees will remain with the company and bank officials say the property will be donated to a local community group.

HSBC customers who bank at the Fillmore-Glenwood branch can switch to four other HSBC locations within a three-mile radius.
