Amherst "Wife Swap" Family Facing Charges

Tools

Amherst, NY (WKBW) -- It was just in June that FBI and IRS agents got search warrants to go into the home and business of Ralph and Karen Guastaferro, who live in Amherst. They appeared on ABC's reality TV show "Wife Swap" last year with their daughter. In federal court on Tuesday, Karen Guastaferro plead guilty to failing to collect and pay taxes in relation to her business Eclipse Glass Tinting, in Clarence, and lying to the IRS about the number of employees there.

Ralph Guastaferro plead guilty to money laundering for setting up two bank accounts for a telemarketing business out of Canada, which would take money from clients. Ralph Guastaferro's attorney says he was a minor part of it. "His role was to create these two bank accounts at the end of this activity so that the money could pass from one bank account through one of these two accounts he had, and then distribute back to the tele-marketers," Rodney Personius said. "Really a very passive roll that he played."

Both Ralph and Karen Guastaferro face jail time and big fines. Sentencing hasn't been scheduled yet.
