In a news conference you saw LIVE on "Eyewitness News at 5:30pm," Buffalo Common Council member Brian Davis resigned his position representing the Ellicott district of the city.

Davis read a prepared statement where he apologized to his family, and stated he can no longer allow his personal situation to be a distraction. Davis pled guilty last week to misuse of campaign funds, and has been at the center of political controversy surrounding funds given to former NBA basketball player Leonard Stokes for the failed One Sunset restaurant.

Davis said he is going to do what is right and tender his resignation. He went on to say he would have loved to continue the work started in making the Ellicott District a better place, and would work with the next council member to make that happen.
