Powell Family Share Their "Makeover" Story

July 9, 2010 Updated Nov 15, 2009 at 5:15 PM EST

Delores Powell and her family met the media Sunday morning from their new home at 228 Massachusetts Avenue in Buffalo. Less than 24 hours had passed since Delores and her family thrilled to seeing their new home for the first time since volunteers put it all together, thanks to David Homes and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

The newly constructed home was completed in one week, from top to bottom with furniture and decor. Thousands packed the area around Massachusetts between Plymouth and Normal Avenues on Saturday, to see the outside, but only Delores and her family can enjoy the inside. The interior will not be revealed until the episode of the nationally televised reality series airs on WKBW-TV and ABC sometime in early 2010.

David Stapleton of David Homes commented Sunday morning that he hopes more projects like this might continue in the city. Thousands of volunteers were coordinated through Stapleton's company and WNY Americorps to handle every detail, including the planting of a "Community Garden" nearby.

Eyewitness News reporter Sharon Osorio was there, and will have their reaction on "Eyewitness News at 11."
