Otto Cemetery Vandalized

It was East Otto resident Doug Stein that just happened to be driving by the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetary, and noticed flowers in the street, and stones overturned. There are about 19 of them vandalized on a sacred ground, that has been there for many years, on Cemetery Hill Road in Otto.

"Devastating. Something that can be around for 150 years, just desecrated. Unbelievable," said Doug Stein.

Stein explains that many of the church pastors of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church are laid to rest there.

"An old german cemetary. A lot of the stones are written right in german, you know, so it has been around," added Stein.

Larry Hurka has been engraving tombstones for years there, and has never seen anything like this.

"It is shocking," said Hurka.

Stein called law enforcement when he saw what the cemetary looked like. They are looking for clues. If you have any information, you are asked to call the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's department. Their number is 938-9191.

"We will see what happens. We have got to catch the people that did this," added Stein.
