Right now, it is a waiting game at Frontier yard. Waiting to see who will stay on the job.
"In the next couple of weeks, most of us will have to look other places for jobs, because it is based on seniority," said employee John Ford.
Fewer trains will pass through the yard.
"It is just frustrating. We all work very very hard. In some of the worst weather that Buffalo has," said Ford.
The announcement came this morning, during a meeting of employees. A company spokesperson placing the blame on the economy. CSX will stop rail car processing at Frontier Yard, which means trains will no longer be divided onto different tracks at this yard. 337 employees will remain, while 132 positions will be cut.
"Some of the jobs will move elsewhere. Whether the employees are going to move is going to depend on on their own labor agreement, whether they can actually move and take a job at another location," said company spokesman Bob Sullivan.
Positions will be added at Niagara, Kenmore, and Rochester yards. Right now, more than thirty thousand freight cars remain parked, with less freight to transfer in these economic times.
