A Town of Eden teenager dies over the weekend in a residence hall at Brockport State College. Campus police are investigating the death which appears to be accidental.

Daniel Dix didn't live at Dobson Hall. Students say he lived on campus at a nearby building but that he was in Dobson Hall on Friday night visiting friends when he met his untimely death.

Police say the 19-year-old junior history major was killed after falling from a third floor stairwell early Saturday morning. His fellow students are in shock. "I think it's weird because it's so close. It's pretty crazy," said student Jordan Pizzi.

"They quickly covered it up. The floor tiles there are all gone now. So there's no evidence of actually what happened," said freshman student Adrienne Lindine. She lives on the floor where Dix fell to this death and she didn't see or hear anything out of the ordinary. "Well no more than usual. I mean it was a Friday night and especially with finals a couple of weeks away people are just going out and having a good time so there wasn't anything that would be more noticeable than on a normal Friday night."

Police won't speculate about whether alcohol or drugs were involved and they haven't said what Dix was doing in the stairwell. But some students say they're eerily reminded of an incident that happened last September, when a freshman was paralyzed after falling from a window in an off-campus house.

"I mean it's the second time something like this has happened, so I'm surprised but not too surprised," said student Daniel Maslik.

An autopsy will be performed on Dix this week, so police will have more information to help them piece together the circumstances leading up to his death. Meanwhile, the college is offering counseling services to students.
