(Brockport, N.Y)- A student at the College at Brockport died after an incident in a stairwell on campus.

School leaders say Daniel Dix, 19 of Eden, N.Y in Erie County was a junior, majoring in History.

Campus police say Dix in the stairwell at Dobson Residence Hall Saturday around 12:30 a.m.

The College at Brockport President John R. Halstead released the following statement;

“On behalf of the entire College at Brockport community, I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Daniel Dix. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them at this difficult time.”
"I think it's weird because it's so close," said Junior Jordan Pizzi, reacting to the news on Saturday afternoon. "It's pretty crazy."
Freshman Adrienne Lindine says she lives on the third floor of Dobson Hall, where police say the incident took place.
"They quickly covered it up," she said. "The floor tiles there are all gone now, so there's no evidence of actually what happened."
She says she didn't notice anything suspicious in her hallway on Friday night.
"Well, no more than usual," said Lindine. "I mean, it was a Friday night, and especially with finals week a couple of weeks away, people are just going out and having a good time. So there wasn't anything that would be more noticeable than on a normal Friday night."
Police cannot confirm whether alcohol was involved or what Dix may have been doing in the stairwell before the deadly accident.
Students say the situation is an eerie reminder of another dangerous incident that took place on campus in September of 2008, when Freshman Bryan Parslow fell from a second-story window of an off-campus house. The fall left Parslow paralyzed.
"It's the second time something like this has happened on campus," said junior Daniel Maslik. "So, I mean, I'm surprised, but not too surprised."
Maslik says that Dix lived in his residence hall, Bramley Hall, which is located next to Dobson.
A campus spokesman says that an autopsy will be performed sometime this week.
