Cop Accused of Manslaughter Fires His Attorney

Buffalo State College police officer Richard McKeon has changed his mind about the manslaughter plea he agreed to in October and now wants to withdraw his plea. McKeon is also not satisfied with the attorney he hired and will now be represented by a public defender.

McKeon's manslaughter plea was in connection with the death of his live-in girlfriend, 47-year-old Maureen Migliore, who police say was strangled before her body was dumped on a road in the Town of Barre then set on fire last March. McKeon was to be sentenced for manslaughter in Orleans County Court on Monday. Instead, he filed a motion with the judge to withdraw his guilty plea and asked to have his attorney, John Nuchereno, replaced by claiming his attorney committed criminal misconduct.

Neither Nuchereno nor Orleans County District Attorney Joseph Cardone would elaborate on what actions McKeon believes constituted the criminal misconduct. McKeon though will now be represented by a public defender as his case moves forward, and a judge will consider McKeon's request to withdraw his guilty plea at a hearing next month.
