Principal to Students: Keep Your Purses Locked Up!
The Principal at J.F.K. High School is taking some heat for a new rule he established. Larry Ljungberg has banned students from carrying purses during the hours when class is held. Ljungberg says he came up with the rule because too many students were carrying cell phones and IPODs in their purses-- items he says caused too many disruptions in the classroom. The rule is not sitting well with many parents and students. Several female students carry very personal items in their purses and point out that the girl's bathrooms at the school are not equipped with dispensing machines. Ljungberg says students are allowed to access their purse in their lockers but only after asking a teacher for permission. He also says the school's nursing station is fully stocked.
Despite the criticism Ljungberg believes his new rule will raise Student Achievement scores, something he says this school needs to improve. |
