A long line of skid marks behind a tractor trailer on Route 63 in Geneseo, and a bag in the middle of the road, they are the haunting visuals of a tragic accident Wednesday morning. Lindsay Matthews, a 19 year old from Orchard Park, was hit while crossing the road. She is a Geneseo sophomore.

"I'm a graduate of Geneseo, so I can almost picture where it happened. It's troubling because you don't want to hear anything about a former student, or anybody. But a former student, it hits close to home." said Matthews' former high school principal John Wolf. Wolf remembers Lindsay as a girl who was always smiling.

Her friends are together tonight. They told Eye Witness News that they want everyone to keep her in their prayers. "Lindsay is a great student. A great girlfriend. A great daughter and the best friend anyone could ever have. She is in our thoughts and prayers, and we just ask that everyone else do the same", said Kelly Burt.

Matthews is a sophomore at Geneseo and plays on the soccer team. SUNY Geneseo did release a statement today saying, "...One of our students was struck by a truck while crossing route 63... Please keep Lindsay and her family in your thoughts during this difficult time. We will share more information with you as it becomes known."

Orchard Park High School will bring in counselors for students and staff. "Well we'll offer counseling to not only the students that may have known her probably juniors and seniors, but the teachers. The teachers will be probably just as affected, if not more affected, than the students," said Superintendent Joan Thomas.

Meanwhile, Lindsay's friends are looking forward to the day she comes back to Orchard Park. "We know that Lindsay is going to be ok. She's gonna pull through. She the strongest person we know and we just can't wait for her to come home." said Burt.

Geneseo Police say the accident remains under investigation.
