John Condon is known as one of Buffalo's premier criminal defense attorneys. He is known for handling major cases, gaining national prominence. In the late 1970's his legal team represented off duty Buffalo Police officers accused in the beating death of Richard Long. A case that captivated the community.
Condon is described by many of his friends and colleagues as a tireless worker, a fierce advocate for his clients, and captivating in the courtroom. His ability, so highly touted the phrase, "Get me Condon" was coined. "He was a devastating cross examiner. He had great rapport with juries. He was a shining example to a lot of people," said colleague Joel Daniels.
Wednesday, the 86 year old Condon and his wife 79 year old Joan Condon, were killed in a car accident at the corner of South Park Avenue and Sowles Road. Police say 82 year old Stanley Jedrysik ran a red light, causing the two vans to collide. Jedrysik was taken to ECMC with a head injury. He is facing multiple charges including speeding and running a red light.
Condon is known as a man who despite all of his success, gave back. Always making time to share his experience, to better the profession. "John was a down to earth guy. and this is one of the greatest things. Never pretentious. Never arrogant. Never to busy to answer a telephone call from maybe a young lawyer who perhaps needed a little bit of guidance." said friend and colleague Joe LaTona.
