I-290 Rollover

Afternoon traffic was slowed to a crawl on the I-290 Westbound near the Niagara Fall Boulevard Exit around 3:00 Saturday afternoon. Amherst Police tell 7 News that a dump truck owned by Michael Serafini Inc. of Cheektowaga, was carrying hot asphalt when it drifted into the guide rail and then overturned onto its side. The two far left lanes of the Youngman Highway were blocked for more then two hours as crews worked to clean up the debris.

The driver of the overturned dump truck, Russell P. Cirino of Cheektowaga, was extricated from the vehicle by the Ellicott Creek Fire Department and was transported to the Erie County Medical Center for observation.

The windshield of a vehicle that was traveling behind the dump truck at the time of the crash was blown out due to debris. The hood of the vehicle also sustained damaged. The female driver was not injured.

The Amherst Police Accident Investigation Unit is still investigating the exact cause of the accident.
