The U.S. Navy is taking over downtown's new waterfront park this week for "Buffalo Navy Week." The Queen City is one of 22 cities nationwide chosen to host the event this year, and it kicked off Sunday with an 8K run starting at the Central Wharf. The events all week are free and open to the public and include flight simulators as well as divers showing off their expertise in a 6,800 gallon tank.

"You get a really good chance to meet sailors and marines and see what we do on a daily basis out in the fleet whether it's music, diving, aviation," says Lt. Commander Garrett Kasper, "We have a number of different variations of what we do represented here at the park."

The winners of Sunday's 8K race were Eric Heely for the men and Meghan Nolan for the women.

There are also free concerts every night this week at 6:00 p.m. at the Central Wharf.
