Several severe thunderstorms tore through parts of Western New York during Wednesday afternoon and evening. Storms across much of the area produced strong winds, heavy rain, and large hail. One area that got hit the hardest was Amherst, with torrential downpours causing flooding to many streets, parking lots, and even basements. Also damaging winds in excess of 60 mph brought down trees and power lines along some roads, knocking out power to several homes.

The storms also produced penny to nickel size hail and frequent lightning.
