Trucker Convicted of Smuggling Pot into U.S.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A federal jury convicts a 30-year-old
Canadian trucker of smuggling about 500 pounds of pot across the
Peace Bridge into the United States.
Dawson Wood was convicted of smuggling and other charges that
carry a penalty of five to 40 years in prison, a $2 million fine,
or both.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Duszkiewicz said the hydroponic
marijuana was found hidden in Wood's rig by customs officers in
March. The street value of the dope was estimated conservatively at
$1.5 million.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 19 before U.S. District Court
Judge Richard Arcara in Buffalo.
