Another Hazing incident?

By Julie Fine

What allegedly happened back on April 21st surprised many in the Town of Wilson. Three varsity athletes allegedly sexually harassing two younger players on the back of the bus, with coaches in the vehicle. The students now facing aggravated sexual abuse charges. The two coaches, Thomas Baia and William Atlas, who are also teachers, are charged with endangering the welfare of a child, and are suspended.

"I just can't comprehend it," said resident Herbert Wills.

There could be more. A source confirming to 7 News this may have happened last year.A player allegedly harassed on the bus, and when a parent complained to the coaches, one reportedly rode in the front and one rode in the back of the bus.

The Superintendent, Dr. Michael Wendt, did not go on camera today, but did tell 7 news "It is difficult to comment on an anonymous source." We asked him about the report that it happened in the past, and Dr. Wendt added, quote, "Once this incident came to light, parents expressed at an open meeting concerns that harrassment may have happened previously. At this point, State Police were already involved."

Wendt also added that he is frustrated by ongoing media coverage, and would like the students to return to a sense of normalcy.
