Buffalo Schools Superintendent Will Address School Board About Memphis Job
Tonight at 5:00 PM, Dr. James Williams will, for the first time, address the Buffalo School Board as a whole to talk about his interest for a job in Memphis, Tennessee. He one of five finalists for the school superintendent job there. So far, board members have mixed feelings about that, considering Williams just signed a contract extension here until 2011.
This is the latest in an ongoing saga involving Williams. While he has many supporters, others have been very critical of his leadership and have made it clear they would like to see him go. He has been accused of triggering several high profile controversies at Buffalo schools, one of which was the 7 week suspension of a Mckinley High School student. Supporters, like board president Mary Ruth Kapsiak, are disappointed to hear Williams is looking elsewhere. She tells us he's made great strides to improve the education system here in the city but says, after how he has been treated by some board members and the public recently, she isn't surprised he might want out. Williams will address the board and then the board will decide what action to take next. Kapsiak says it does not make sense to try and hold onto someone who wants to leave but says she will try to get him to stay. Other board members have said publicly, if Williams is looking to leave, then the Board needs to think about finding his replacement. Expect complete coverage of tonights meeting on 7 News at 5:00pm and 6:00pm. |
