State Trooper From Buffalo Speaks About Hit and Run

By Laura Gray

A Pennsylvania State Trooper's dash cam captures the terrifying moment. Trooper Andrew Falcon, a Buffalo native, was writing a ticket near Philadelphia. Another vehicle passes and it's side mirror knocks Falcon right into the car.. "As you can tell I was momentarily stunned. But ultimately I reverted back to my training. I took a deep breath and I knew I had to get out of harms way."

Luckily, the woman he pulled over was an EMT. Dawn Rohanna quickly called 9-1-1. She stayed with Falcon until the ambulance showed. "It was scary. Very nervous. I had no idea where he went. One minute he was there. The next minute he wasn't."

In the last decade, 150 law enforcement officers have been killed on the side of the road. 43 states, including New York, have Move Over Laws. They require drivers to change lanes if an emergency vehicle is on the side of the road. Falcon only suffered minor injuries to his elbow. His vest absorbed most of the impact. The PA State Trooper expects to return to full duty Monday, and he'll be in perfect health for his Buffalo wedding in August. "Wow. I'll tell you I'm very fortunate to be here. Many times we see police video and the person doesn't end up as fortunate as I am . To suffer minor injuries."

Rohanna was also fortunate. Falcon decided to void her ticket. Meanwhile, State Police are enhancing the video footage of the hit and run. Falcon says they are pursuing many leads, and they are optimistic about an arrest.
