A billboard off the 33 is raising some eyebrows in a buffalo neighborhood. The billboard is located at the corner of East Delevan and Humboldt Pkwy and has the words "Thug Motivation" on it. Now residents want to know why the word "thug" is plastered around their homes.

"A lot of different people come from the highway and come this way and it might make the neighborhood look bad," said resident Vince Wilson. "All because someone's trying to make money off being a thug in the past."

Others in the community also agreed.

"It will promote negative things for kids," said Tyler McDowell.

True Bethel Baptist Church is only a few blocks from the billboard and Rev. Darius Pridgeon was shocked when he first learned about the advertisement.

"My reaction was probably what the majority of people's reaction would be when they see a billboard that has the word thug in it," said Rev Pridgeon. "My reaction was one of concern, from the beginning when I first saw it."

Pridgeon also added that the author of the book who is referred to as Bags of Money contacted his church about the billboard and explained his reasoning.

"With my interactions with him, from his point of view, he wanted to get the attention of the young people and then move them into a more positive life," added Rev. Pridgeon. "What he explained to me and the people in my office was that he was trying to take a negative stereotype such as the word thug and turn it to get the attention of young people and people who might be on the edge so that he could give them a positive message."

While many residents in the community are asking for the Billboard to be taken down, Rev. Pridgeon would like to see more clarity.

"I would like there to be more explanation of what it means," said Rev. Pridgeon. "So that people can feel comfortable or uncomfortable and again he just accomplished his goals to get people talking and to get people to pay attention to his message."
