WNY Child Murder Suspects Back In Court

WNY Child Murder Suspects Back In Court

By Jennifer Stanonis

Two murder suspects in the death of a 3 year old child are expected to face a grand jury. 26 year old Guy Maybee and his girlfriend 32 year old Stephanie Pierce-Shenandoah were due back in Salamanca Town Court for preliminary felony hearings for second degree murder of Maybee's daughter.

In Maybee's hearing several law enforcement personnel who were at the scene of the alleged crime took the stand as witnesses, Tuesday afternoon. The judge ruled that there was enough evidence to send the murder case to a grand jury as a felony. Maybee was still in custody Tuesday night pending new bail to be set.

Pierce-Shenandoah waived her hearing and now goes directly to a grand jury hearing. Her charge was reduced down to manslaughter in the second and her bail down to $10,000.

Last Friday police responded to a call to the couple's Salamanca home that Maybee's daughter, Ianna, wasn't breathing. Several responders say there was suspicious bruising on her body including her wrist area and under her chin. Also, results from an examination of her body revealed internal injuries, such as severe bleeding to the left side of her brain and several broken ribs. Officials also noticed Maybee had bruising to an eye, his mouth, and lower arms and hands. His attorney says there isn't enough evidence to prove he caused the child's injuries. But the prosecution's arguments include the child was under the care of the father and the girlfriend.
