Sabres for sale?

Sabres for sale?

By Melanie Pritchard

Buffalo sports fans are already worried what's going to happen with the Bills once Ralph Wilson no longer owns the team. Now there's speculation about the future ownership of the Buffalo Sabres.

You can't always believe what you hear but talk of a potential sale of the Sabres is gaining some steam...fueled by comments owner Tom Golisano made in a recent radio interview. "Nothing is written in concrete but at this point I would say I'm probably going to be the owner of the Buffalo Sabres in five years. Maybe even ten years," Golisano told WGR 550 SportsRadio.

"It's mostly a speculation thing but the rumors are there," said Hockey Hall of Fame writer Jim Kelley. Kelley those rumors also center on the fact that Canadian businessman Jim Balsillie tried to buy the Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators -- but was shut down both times. "Buffalo is much closer to the Kitchener/Waterloo area where Balsillie lives. There's been a great deal of speculation here in Canada that he might set his sights on trying to buy a team like the Buffalo Sabres."

Golisano hasn't put up a for sale sign...and he's made it clear he loves owning the Sabres. "I have never had so much fun in my life as I have being the owner of the Buffalo Sabres," Golisano told WGR 550.

We reached out to the Sabres to try to interview Golisano...a team spokesman is adamant that the team is not for sale. Jim balsillie and his people don't want to comment on or off the record.
