Evelyn Safe says her family and Lynn Dejac's family will be connected forever because they learned this fall that the DNA of Dennis Donohue was found at both crime scenes.
Buffalo's Cold Case Squad tested the DNA found at the Giambra scene, where Joan Giambra of south Buffalo was found dead, and her daughter was left for dead on top of her mother's body.
The Giambra case happened in September of 1993, after the murder of DeJac's daughter.
Evelyn Safe says she's happy DeJac is out of jail, and says she wishes Dennis Donohue had been implicated in Girard's case way back when.
"If they would have listened to her (DeJac) in the first place, Joan Giambra might still be alive," says Safe.
Safe says she's grateful to the Cold Case squad for finding more answers and evidence in these crimes. Members of the squad were in court today, but the Buffalo Police Department's only comment today is, "We respect Judge D'Amico's decision to grant Lynn DeJac a new trial. It's now time to let the legal process play itself out. At this point, we have no further comment."
Dennis Donahue cannot be tried in relation to the death of Girard because Donohue was granted immunity to testify against DeJac. But Donahue does face murder charges in the Giambra case.
