The Pembroke community is mourning the loss of one of its teachers.

33-year-old Dawn Krol died Monday night after she was involved in an A.T.V. accident in Yorkshire, Cattaraugus County on Sunday.

“She just wanted them to be everything they could, and she helped a lot of kids. She's going to be missed,” said Dawn Krol’s older sister, Laurie Krol Tuesday. Laurie said teaching wasn’t just Dawn’s profession. It was her passion. “She considered all of her students like one of her own.”

Krol taught math at Maritime Charter School from 2005 to 2016. The school's commandant tells 7 Eyewitness News “she was one of those teachers you could always count on and she would never let kids give up on themselves." Laurie said she saw that first hand. “She would just be grading away and then all of the sudden she'd be like yes, they got it. They finally got it with a big smile.”

Dawn continued that love of teaching with the Pembroke Central School District this past September where she taught math in the junior-senior high school. The district is flying its mourning flag this week in her memory. Pembroke's superintendent also released a statement saying in part "I’m thankful for the short time she impacted their lives, and I am inspired by her to continue to do my best to meet the needs of every one of our students."

School officials also said grief counselors will be on hand to help students having a hard time dealing with the loss.
Calling hours are this Friday from 2-4 P.M.and 6-8 P.M. at Paul Kloc Blossom Chapels located at 4680 Clinton St, West Seneca, NY 14224. The funeral will be on Saturday at 9:30 A.M at the same location.
