Ten hours is all the time Special Spaces Buffalo needs to turn a bedroom around. But it takes just one second and a glance at a new bedroom to change someone's life. That's what happened to 16-year-old Kelcie, who suffers from acute myeloid leukemia, an aggressive form of cancer. But Saturday night, she was moved to tears, with her brand new Parisian café bedroom.

"These kids find so much time in the hospital and doctors visits that we just want to add a little bit of normalcy to their room... and their life," said Lynn Wall, director of Special Spaces Buffalo.

Kelcie enjoyed a full day of pampering while Special Spaces Buffalo and volunteers from Infinity Medical of Western New York hammered, painted, and sowed Saturday away, all for a smile.

"We like to send them out for the day and just get them out of here and enjoy a day of rest and relaxation... and some fun," said Beverly Olsen, co-director for Special Spaces Buffalo.

The local group remodels rooms for kids with life-threatening illnesses here in Western New York. Kelcie is the 47th room makeover in five years the group is doing with the help of other companies, including Ashley Furniture, who donates all the furniture to each room. 47 is also the number of relationships the group has formed with different families.

"These kids they are truly heroes and the parents are incredible superheroes," said Wall. "What they go through they sure deserve to have their special space."

It's a fresh new start for Kelcie... as fresh as the blue paint.
