The FCC's decision on whether to lift the regulations that enforce net neutrality will come in about a month. Until then, Internet users are left wondering what life without it would be like.

Net neutrality is the reason we pay a flat fee from our Internet service providers. But without it, companies like Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon could begin tiered charges for the different ways we use the Internet, according to University at Buffalo communications law professor Mark Bartholomew.

The FCC says lifting the regulations and limiting government "micromanaging" of Internet services would be good for users in the long run. It says less restrictions could encourage more investment in those services, and improve the quality of service they provide.
