In 2001 Jonathon Cote, then a member of the US Army, purchased a 1999 Ford F150.
"On the big day he was really proud that he got it" his brother, Christopher said.
Jonathon would complete his military service in 2005 and was offered an opportunity to work private security in Iraq.
On November 16, 2006, Jon and his team were ambushed while crossing the Iraq border. Jon would never return home alive.
His brother, Chris, would keep his truck with him from the moment he left.
"I didn't really want to get rid of it." Chris said, "Every time I opened the door it smelled like him."
He couldn't imagine getting rid of it, that was, until he found the right person to give it to.
On Thursday, Chris officially handed the keys over through a program with WNYHeroes to Peter Christ, a U.S. Army and Marine veteran.
"It's definitely a big honor" Christ said.
The car was completely refurbished by an auto shop owned by veterans. Chris Cote is glad that he can allow the truck to live on in Jonathon's name.
"It was a special truck to him (Jonathon), and we want it to be a special truck for someone else."
