A Lackawanna man has been found guilty of killing his young wife.

A jury delivered its guilty verdict against Daniel Whiting on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Erie County District Attorney's Office, Whiting stabbed his wife, 21-year-old Ashley Whiting, 30 times in their home last July. He then stabbed himself, claiming that both were attacked by an intruder.

Jurors deliberated in just under an hour. District Attorney Michael Flaherty says the decision most likely came so quickly because of the overwhelming evidence against Whiting.

D.A. Flaherty applauds the professional efforts of the detectives from the Lackawanna Police Department.

Ashley Whiting's uncle, Joe Caligiuri, also thanked the Lackawanna Police and the thousands who have reached out to the family in support over the last year.
