A lieutenant with the Jamestown Fire Department is facing drug charges.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office, 58-year-old James Gatto was allegedly found growing marijuana at a location on Bemus Ellery Road.

Authorities say the amount of marijuana found met the threshold to charge Gatto with unlawful growing marijuana and criminal possession of marijuana.

According to the Post Journal, Gatto has been placed on leave from the fire department, where he has been a member for 29 years.

Deputies say Gatto was issued appearance tickets for the charges and is due back in Town of Ellery Court at a later date.
