A day after a city of Buffalo employee was arrested for stabbing a Pit Bull in South Buffalo, a local Pit Bull local advocacy groups came out in support of the breed.
Stand up for Pit Bulls, a national touring comedy event came to the Queen City for the first time Sunday to help show the community a dog's breed doesn't dictate personality.
"I think there's a stigma on pit bulls that they're bad." said Danielle Grek, director of Fix-A-Bull. "they're not, they're an individual."
Katy Mastrobattista, a City of Buffalo Animal Shelter volunteer says the shelter sees more Pit Bulls than any other breed, and sometimes it takes a face to face meeting for someone to become comfortable with the dogs.
"We do get people that come to the shelter that are afraid of Pit Bulls, so we try to get them to meet one in person and learn that they are actually a great dog."
Skye Lipton, who is the founder of Silver Lining for Pit Bulls, an organization dedicated to finding loving homes for the animals, says Saturdays attack will only push her, and other groups to work harder.
"To hear something like that happening, it just feels like the work we're doing is still falling short so it makes us want to get the word out and tell everyone what good dogs they are."
but despite the setbacks, Lipton says Buffalo is a great place for the breed.
"Buffalo is a very Pit Bull friendly city, and it's something that I'm proud to be a part of."
