New York State Police have made an arrest in a hit and run crash on Grand Island that critically injured a woman walking her dog.

Investigators arrested Edward J. Kuebler III, 27, of Tonawanda Wednesday charging him with leaving the scene of a serious personal injury incident.

During his arraignment Wednesday evening, Kuebler pleaded not guilty and posted his $5,000 bail.

Kuebler's license has also been suspended.

Investigators say he was driving his pick-up truck southbound on East River Road on June 13th when he hit Dana Papaj, 53, of Grand Island.

Police say Kuebler did not stop. His truck was seen on surveillance camera.

Kuebler is employed as a corrections officer at the Wende Correctional Facility in Alden. He is on leave without pay.

Papaj continues to recover at the Erie County Medical Center.

The attorney for the Papaj family, Steve Cohen, has provided this statement on behalf of the family:

"The family is deeply grateful to the New York State Police, Erie County Sheriff and the Erie County District Attorney for their professionalism, dedication to seeking justice and hard work in making an arrest in this tragic case."
